Insect & Mosquito Repellent

When you and you're family are off on holiday, no matter if it's to Scotland or the Amazon, there is one sure reality - insects, mosquitos and bugs. ( If you want to avoid the creepy crawlies then you have to go on skiing holidays - bugs don't like dry, thin air.)

The simple addition of an insect and mosquito repellent to your pack will help give you some protection from the local, blood sucking and biting inhabitants. There are many different types and strengths of insect repellent and they all vary according to where you're traveling to. There are repellent lotions, sprays and roll ons so there are plenty to choose from should you have sensitive skin or dislike lotion, like me.

Most insect and mosquito repellent is deet based which is an oil developed by the American army after jungle warfare in World War II to 'blind' insects, mosquitos and bugs of their feeding instincts so they stop causing discomfort when they come into contact with humans. Other insect repellents consist of natural oils which insects and bugs dislike, so the natural oils actually repel the insects. Other repellents use a combination of deet and natural based solutions to create the best defense against bugs.

In non-malarial areas, a repellent which has a deet content of 20% or a natural repellent will be effective at keeping bugs at bay. However, if you are travelling to a malarial area a 50% deet repellent will be required; use 100% deet on natural fibre clothing as it can be too oily for the skin and just run off, particularly if you are travelling to a hot and humid climate. Remember to always wear long trousers and long sleeve shirts and don’t forget the socks, even with your sandals.

Here at Webtogs we also have a good range of plug in mosquito repellents as well as smoke coils and fumers. These are great if you're staying in a hotel or in one place for a long time where you need to make sure the room or area is bug and mosquito free.

As always you can guarantee that you or one of your group will get bitten so we have a some soothing bite relief and a bite relief click which uses electricity to help reduce the irritation.
