The Men's Keen Commuter III Sandals are the 3rd generation of commuter sandals to be released and like it's predecessors, they does not disappoint. These SPD compatible sandals are perfect for summer cycling trips, summer commuting and general wear during the warmer months.
This version has been updaed with a wider sole unit than the previous Commuter II sandals so they'll fit a wider range of feet and allow for slight expansion after lengthy day in the saddle.
Keen have added their patented toe cap to the Commuters so you'll be safe from tyre burn on your toes should you get that close! There is also an anti-microbial solution added to these bike sandals so that each time you come to wear them the sandals break down any nasty smells that might build up from prolonged use in the saddle.
The Keen Commuter III Sandals are an ideal companion for cycle touring and commuting in warm weather, but remember to put sun cream on your feet if your planning to go for a long ride in the sun!

Like Commuter IIs only wider
This review is for the Commuter IIIs. The previous version was a very narrow fit, probably because they decided to have the cleats centred sagittally. Now they've abandoned that and the cleats are offset, the sandal is more like a Newport and I have bought my usual size 9 (the shoe might be fractionally narrower but it's ok). The other thing I didn't like about the CIIs was the lack of roll when walking. The CIIIs aren't completely like a Newport because they have a stiff sole for cycling, but they feel fine to walk in. Early days yet (one ride) but they are comfortable to pedal in and the cleat position is fine. Oh and it's a nice deep recess, with a removable rubber cover so you don't need to stanley knife your new shoes to fit the cleats.

A year on....
I still love these sandals. They've been excellent throughout a couple of thousand miles of cycling.
However, there are a couple of weaknesses that have revealed themselves across the year.
- The right sole has 'bent', so it now rucks a bit under the middle of my foot.
- The left velcro is fussy, it doesn't stick well any more :(
- The stitching around the inside strengthening panel under the velcro strap on the right sandal has come away.
These are all somewhat disappointing in what is otherwise and excellent shoe. And for the price I'm surprised about the stitching.

Great cycling sandal
An excellent product by Keen, no need to break-in. Wore them for the first time on a 100 mile back to back Audax and they were extremely comfortable. Great service from Webtogs too!

Love my Keen Sandals !

I wear my 3 year old (non SPD) Keen Sandals all year round, they are that comfy. So imagine my surprise when Keen started doing SPD compatible sandals.I just had to get a pair. So far I am just as pleased with them as I have been with my old trusty walking ones. I was surprised at how narrow they looked in comparison but they dont feel much narrower. They are however closer fitting... which is no bad thing being a cycling sandal. As a guide I can wear socks with my old Keen sandals... there is no room for even a thin sock with the Keen Commuter sandals... but why would you want too the toe box keeps your toes warm, protected from knocks and thorns and also keeps out most of the grit etc. (and for all those fashion gurus that tutted at the mention of socks with sandals please note that I would never ever do that... unless it was snowing of course) Hope this is of some use to you.REVIEW BY: wee fifer

Just the Job
Weight is going to be a BIG issue for our cycle touring trip of France and Spain in early September. We are touring on a tandem and towing a trailer with camping gear, so my wife and I wanted something that'll mean we only need one item of footwear. Having discovered and ordered two pairs of the Keen commuter sandals from Webtogs (who have provided excellent service), I was delighted when they were delivered today. My wife and I have both found them to be an excellent comfortable sandal that really LOOKS GOOD. Have yet to try them out on a cycling trip, but can't see us having anything but success with them. We really are delighted - many thanks Keen for a practical and stylish cycling sandal (by far the best available on the market). Webtogs are highly recommended also.

I'm a year round cycle commuter. These are now my absolute go-to shoes any time the temperature is heading towards double figures.I've found that the front half of the sandal is a touch narrow, and the rear a touch wide. This does mean that I'm unlikely to be able to put some warm socks on for winter, but doesn't cause an issue otherwise.
The sole is very stiff, which is excellent for cycling, when I walk my heel lifts - but the upper stays with my foot, so there is no rubbing.
The front of the sandal is very protective, even more than I thought. There is little direct airflow around the toes, but in cooler conditions this is good. There is enough deflected airflow to keep the toes cool in warm weather.
The anti-odour sole is actually very good, and more importantly is removeable (there is a velcro tag under the heel and a raised section which lines up with the cleats, giving a positive location at the front of the foot) and machine washable (as is the rest of the shoe)

Just the Job!
Bought May 2010. Very good sandals. Cleat position is adjustable. I've been wearing them cycling to work and leaving them on. The cleats are recessed enough for no clatter as I walk on non-carpeted floors and easy to twist off pedals.
The only downside is that Keen must think all cyclists have narrow feet. I've had to go for a larger size than normal for the width to be OK.

Great solution for the person who wants to wander around in sandals, and then hop on a bike to nip to the shops or ride with the kids. Actually stiff enough to ride perfectly well, cool enough to wear in the warm weather but a bit clumpy if you don't need the spd function. Bear in mind you will need to buy an extra set of cleats - that puts the price up. Good build quality.REVIEW BY: Joolz
