The Keen Newport H2 Sandals are the legend that launched Keen Footwear as a brand. Originally designed by Martin Keen, he wanted to make a sandal that stopped his toes getting bashed around whilst on his boat. The result of this design was the Keen Newport with it's recognisable toe bumper. These H2's are designed for men, and were born to be in water, whether on the boat, the beach or the river bank.
The polyester webbing (as opposed to the leather on a standard Keen Newport) makes the Keen H2 Newport a natural when it comes to salt water, resisting the corrosive effects of salt. On the bottom, you have decent lugs heading in all directions to keep your feet steady, and the Newport H2's also have razor siping. This siping breaks the surface of any film of water ensuring awesome grip on wet surfaces. The toe bumper immediately marks these out as part of the Keen family, and after you stub your toes the first time with no ill effects, you will wonder why you didn't get a pair of Newport H2's before!
Pong wise you needn't worry with an AEGIS microbe shield and Microban built in to the footbed, but if that's not enough, you can just pop them in the washing machine. Wherever your adventures take you this summer, you won't go far wrong with the Keen Newport H2's to carry you there and back.

Metatomical Footbed Design
this is an internal support mechanism that is anatomically engineered to provide excellent arch support and cradle the natural contours of the foot for extra comfort.
Aegis Antimicrobial
is a treatment that helps prevent your shoes, boots and sandals from becoming smelly. Aegis does this by keeping the level of microbes to a small number so keeping your feet fresh for miles and miles.
This is my third set of Keen sandals in four years. Wore the others out with continuous wear while canoeing, sailing, hillwalking, cycling and going to work. Nothing else comes close for comfort and value.

As a boater, I normally hate sandals. They often feel flimsy and unsupportive, and their soles rarely grip well. Most crucially of all, exposed toes are a liability on a boat. A single clumsy contact with a deck cleat can render you immobile for ages. Designed by an American sailor, Martin Keen, specifically for boating, I bought these Newport H2 sandals from Webtogs for one reason only; because the toe protection looked so sturdy. In practice, they’ve excelled in every area. The sturdy toe caps are great, you won’t suffer even if you slam into a sharp metal object. They are ridiculously comfortable, at least on my feet . From new, I wore them for two days without a break, with and without socks. These broad H2’s would obviously suit wide feet, yet thanks to the soft stretchy lining (Keen call it ‘hydrophobic mesh’, I’d call it neoprene) and the bungee-like laces, they feel uncommonly supportive on my standard issue perambulators too. Despite this good support and the snug ankle strap, they are very easy to flick off. All told, I’ve never owned sandals as comfortable. Good grip is paramount on a boat. I tested these on a teak laid deck, and a diamond pattern glassfibre deck, in the dry and the wet. Keen’s non-marking sole (it deserves this description) is much harder than on any deck shoe I’ve encountered. Most noticeable was that its wet weather grip generally seemed almost as good as its grip in the dry. On the teak, in the wet, it was possible to force the H2s to slide along the grain. But across the grain and the rubber sealant strips, with my weight pressing down, the H2s wouldn’t budge at all. Their lateral grip was excellent too, as was their resistance to twisting. On the wooden pontoons, and on surfaces ashore like concrete, tarmac, carpet and flagstones, my H2s were as grippy as anything I’ve ever worn. Other useful features: H2s can be machine washed, they seem very sturdily constructed, replacement laces are available, they come in half sizes and three different colours, there’s a no quibble 60 day return policy, and the people at webtogs could not be more helpful. One thing to note. The open pattern on the H2’s soles tends to pick up and hold small stones, between 1mm/5mm diameter. So if you’re returning from the beach, check your soles before you hop back onboard. They dry out quicker than thick leather deck shoes, but unsurprisingly, nowhere as fast as all-plastic Crocs. Mine are only two months old, so I can’t comment on their longevity yet. You might struggle to get into the Royal Yacht Squadron wearing sandals, but otherwise I can’t recommend these too highly. For day-to-day boating, I’d take these in preference to most deck shoes. Dave Marsh. Technical Editor, Motor Boat & Yachting magazine

I have a pair of these which I have worn regularly over the last two summers. Comfortable and bomb proof. When they get stinky I just throw them in the washing machine.
When they finally wear out, I will get another.
I can't recommend these highly enough.
I'm a bit of a cheapskate normally, but it's worth paying extra for these for the fit, build, and comfort.

I have 2 pairs of these now. Great for holiday where you can do fairly robust walking in them, and get them wet as well. They protect your toes, and look different to everything else - I think in a good way, my mum thought they looked a bit strange though! Love them!

Keen Sandals

I used to be an advocate for Teva sandals, but I found my new Keen's to offer far superior levels of support, protection and confort than these old open toers. I have worn my Keen's solidly in and out of water over the last 2 weeks whilst on holiday and experienced none of the usual 'breaking in' skin rubs etc - they were comfortable from the start.

Best sandals around!

Previously, I have bought Teva sandals but found rough terrain problematic due to the open toe. The Keen closed toe design means that much more challenging terrain is comfortable. I used the Keen's for hiking and scrambling on sea rocks and they cope extremely well. The Newport has a really substantial sole which means that you can even stand of sharp rocks without problems. The fact that they dry so fast is a big plus compared to other footwear. Excellent service from Webtogs who seem to offer the best selection and pricing of Keen footwear in the UK. I can strongly recommend both the Newport H2 and Webtogs.

Perfect product, I wear them whilst kayaking and most other times to be honest. Supremely comfortable, the toe protection offers confidence, you don't need to watch where you are putting your feet, unlike open-toed sandals.

Really comfortable straight out of the box, fantastic grip and the toe bumper makes a real difference to your overall sense of security on the rough stuff, oh and no smell too,but they are expensive and I hope they will last at this price.

Typical bloke, buying the same shoe as I've had before. Good summer sandal for everyday use including beach wear. Webtogs were really good and got these on a special order for me (size 13 although I'm normally size 12).

great for summer sailing
2 of 2 people found this review useful
I was looking for non-marking sandals for sailing with as boat shoes are uncomfortable if wet! These are very comfortable & I would recommend them for this purpose. It's a pain getting bits of grit out from under the sole when ashore due to the closed toe - though this feature gives really great protection when afloat.
