Excellent Gloves

Considered to a liner gloves, but too good to hide under another pair! They look great, and the quality of construction is excellent. They are soft to the touch, and feel very warm for the weight. the elasticated cuffs are a great feature too. Recommended! Read More »

Marmot

Marmot continue to innovate at a tremendous rate and are THE brand for serious mountaineers, climbers, adventurers and skiers. Started in 1971 by two University of California students, Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley, Marmot began by making prototype products in their student digs. Originally making down vests and sleeping bags, down gear has been Marmot's special area of expertise, and this heritage continues to today. Marmot were also one of the first brands to use Gore-Tex fabrics when they first appeared on the market in 1976, and they are the oldest customer of Gore-Tex in the outdoor clothing, and equipment market.

Recently, Marmot have created a real stir with their revolutionary technology MemBrain, one of the lightest waterproof and breathable fabrics out there. From the ground breaking Mica jacket, to utilising Membrain in their helium bags, Marmot have created a new wave of lightweight breathable products that continue to astound with their weight. Marmot's PreCip fabric also offers value based performance to a growing number of outdoor professionals and enthusiasts alike. Marmots expertise extends way beyond clothing, with a fantastic range of tents, sleeping bags and packs, all tested to destruction and built to withstand the worst mother nature can throw at you.

Marmot has you covered whether you need to rely on their down heritage with sleeping bags and jackets, their innovation with Membrain and Precip, their design prowess with an expedition tent for a trip to the Alps or just a lightweight waterproof jacket for a summer trip to the lakes.

Marmot Technologies

Marmot have been at the sharp end of technology advancements for over 40 years and have pioneered new and exciting tech not only through their own research and development but through partnerships of Gore-Tex, Polartec, Pittards and Primaloft. These big names seem to come up a lot in the outdoor industry but that's a good thing as it shows that brands such as Marmot trust these external manufacturers enough to combine their products with alternate fabrics and technologies. Marmot have happily developed their own tech and arrived at some ground breaking discoveries and fabrics such as Membrain Strata, Precip and Thermal R insulation. The next few steps will try to give you a better understanding of their technologies and what each name does, hopefully we'll be able to help you link the icons with the tech so in the future you won't have to read the boring stuff again..

Fabric & Brand Collaboration

Marmot Pittards

Pittards

Pittards - Pittards are the main supplier of performance leather to the outdoor market and are aiming to be the only brand of leather that you'll see on leather goods and sports equipment. Marmot use Pittards leather for most of their glove palms due it's high quality, superb grip and durability. Pittards process their leather and make Pittards Armotan which is a new chemistry where leather fibrils are encased in microscopic ceramic which are more resilient and durable.
Marmot use Polartec

Polartec

Polartec - We see Polartec time and time again in the outdoor clothing industry and we know that when we see the Polartec logo we can rest assured that the quality of fleece or soft shell will be second to none. Marmot use Polartec in construction of their fleeces, gloves, soft shells and base layers. Look out for the new Polartec NeoShell, this is the newest and most revolutionary fabric where you get all the protection of a hard shell in a soft shell fabric. Have a look at the Marmot Zion Jacket to see what the buzz is about..
Marmot use primaloft

Primaloft

One of the most dominant insulating brands on the market Primaloft have developed advanced technology that have made their synthetic insulation absorb 3 times less water, be 14% warmer when dry and 24% warmer when wet in comparison to other synthetic insulation. At a guess this is why Marmot use Primaloft in construction of their insulated jackets and gloves.
Marmot use Gore-Tex fabrics

Gore-Tex

Marmot use a range of Gore-Tex fabrics and they include Pro Shell, Performance Shell, Windstopper and XCR. These fabrics all have their specific qualities to the Marmot products they are linked to. Gore-Tex is well know for it's waterproof and breathable fabrics and each variant has a different level of comfort, abrasion resistance and durability which corresponds to the item's suited activity or climate.

Marmot Proprietary Technologies

Marmot Membrain technology

Membrain

Marmot Membrain technology is Marmot's own waterproof and breathable fabric which doesn't need a lining or 3-layer construction which then makes it very lightweight, breathable and packable. Membrane fabrics are used over Marmot's whole range of gear from sleeping bags right down to gloves and mittens.
Marmot Membrain Reflect

Membrain Reflect

Marmot have just designed Membrain Reflect and it's an insert to gloves making them waterproof and breathable with the addition of a reflective coating which literally bounces heat back to your hands keeping them warmer with out you having to exert any more energy. Clever, simple stuff.
Marmot M Shells

Marmot M Shells

These are Marmot's own soft shell designs and go from 1 to 3 each having it's own level of comfort, breathability and durability. Being a soft shell Marmot tend to use the M fabrics on their glove outers and add a Membrain inner to make them water proof but fast drying. On soft shell jackets M fabrics are light, comfortable, water resistant and highly breathable making them choice for slightly damp cold days..
Marmot Precip

Precip

Coated waterproofing technology pioneered by Marmot. Precip is a microporous polyurethane layer thats impregnated with silicone dioxide particles which create numerous small holes which allow water vapour to escape without allowing liquid water to enter thus creating a breathable and waterproof layer which is very lightweight and durable. Perfect for use in Marmot lightweight waterproof jackets and trousers
Marmot DriClime

DriClime

Moisture Management Technology is a family of uniquely plaited bi-component knit fabrics engineered to mechanically draw moisture away from your skin to keep you dry, warm and comfortable. Marmot use DriClime in construction of most of their gloves as it takes moisture from the skin keeping your hands dry. Marmot know that dry hands equals warm hands and the moment a glove becomes wet or damp heat is very difficult to retain which is where DriClime comes in to prevent any dampness.

Marmot Insulation

Marmot Spirafil

Spirafil

Spirafil - SpiraFil is a blend of large, hollow, spiral fibres for loft, and small polyester fibres for warmth, softness, and compressibility. Thermal bonding ensures high tear strength and long-term durability. SpiraFil provides an exceptional combination of warmth, softness, low weight, and pack size. Marmot use Spirafil as the insulation for their Wave Sleeping bags.
Marmot Thermal R

Thermal R

Thermal R is Marmot's proprietary family of polyester insulating materials which are specifically engineered to meet various needs according to the product and activity. Marmot use Thermal R for it's excellent warmth to weight ratio and it's resilience to being packed and unpacked constantly.
