Constructed from Marmots' own M3 Soft Shell fabric, the men's Approach Jacket is a terrific all round garment primed for aerobic winter sports and activities. Water repellent and breathable, the Approach Jacket also incorporates Marmots' ESP stretch fabric to provide a high degree of comfort and durability throughout any prolonged source of activity.Marmot M3 and ESP stretch fabrics combine beautifully to make the Approach Jacket a comfortable and stylish performance soft shell Garment that's suitable for a whole host of activities this winter. Other features that make this jacket a classic soft shell include: Driclime lined collar and chin guard for added comfort, simple hem cord adjustability for when the weather closes in, and is zip-in compatible with a Marmot fleece.

BUILD QUALITY:I purchased my Marmot Approach jacket from Webtogs last September (2009) and it's proven itself brilliantly. The construction is solid and the materials feel great quality. The jacket has stood up really well to 8 months of constant and rigourous use.
PERFORMANCE:
It fits very neatly and stops everything but the fiercest winds (I wear mine on top of a Marmot Powerstretch jacket and together they're totally windproof). Together they kept me nice and warm in Prague's -18 C in January.
Approach has good water resistance but will eventually give up under constant dousing (as is expected), so couple with a Goretex Paclite for full waterproofing.
The zips are solid and have never jammed. Wind flap behind the main zip and water resistant seams over all zips work well.
VALUE FOR MONEY:
I paid about £90 for my Approach and it seems to have pretty much held it's value which I would expect from a jacket as good as this. You couldn't really ask for more from your £80.
Warm and windstopping, the Approach works well in warm to cool weather, and with a thermal layer (such as a Powerstretch or even just a sweater) can cope with very cold weather with ease.
The Marmot Super Hero jacket does offer more but at twice the price, making Approach a great choice for those with a tighter budget to work with.
I would recommend Approach over similar products by The North Face and Mountain Hardwear.

v.good jacket
great, light softshell, although no internal pocket which features in other marmot jackets.
