Marmot Sleeping Bags

Are you a Yeti? No, Yeti's don't have the internet so I am going to make an educated guess that you're a normal human being who gets cold and doesn't have skin covered in fur. Joking aside, Marmot make some seriously comfortable and warm sleeping bags and I can't say for sure but it'll be like having a hug from a Yeti, or a bear. Marmot have down sleeping bags which can take you down to a staggering minus 29 centigrade which is life saving if you ask me. Marmot have also developed sleeping bags specifically for the Summer so the bags are lightweight and airy to prevent you from over heating.

One of the main problems about camping is that you never know what the weather is going to do but you can always guarantee that the temperature will drop deeper into the night. This is where Marmot excel. Marmot sleeping bags will give you a fantastic nights sleep, they will keep you warm, dry and comfortable. The warmth from Marmot sleeping bags will come from either down insulation or synthetic insulation. This leads me on perfectly to the next topic regarding Marmot sleeping bags. Insulation and external fabrics.

Marmot sleeping bags come in a range of shapes, sizes, fill power and materials and here I'll give you a brief outline into what everything means. If I confuse you more then I'm sorry and it might be best to call and talk to one of our customer service guys. Here goes.

Insulation - Insulation comes in the shape of down or synthetic and most Marmot bags that we stock at Webtogs are of the down variety. There is very little difference between down and synthetic insulation really as they both keep you warm and can both be compressed in to rather small, easy to carry sacks. Down however weighs less, is more compressible and has better insulating properties than synthetic insulation. The negative to down is that if it gets wet or damp then it loses it's insulating properties until it's been dried out again making it slightly problematic in changeable weather conditions. Marmot synthetic sleeping bags on the other hand will keep you warm even when it's wet but will not pack down as small or keep you as warm in much colder conditions.

In order to prevent the insulation from getting wet or damp and to allow sweat to make it's way from you to the atmosphere your chosen sleeping bag has to be able to allow water vapour to escape while preventing liquids from entering. Marmot combat this by adding their Membrain Strata fabrics to some of their sleeping bags which is a relation of the fabrics used in construction of waterproof and breathable jackets. Other Marmot sleeping bags will have a DWR treatment to allow water droplets to form on the surface but never penetrate the outer fabric.

If you ask me then you should never get your Marmot sleeping bag wet because it's a pain but if you can't avoid it or are out snow holing then be sure to carry the correct bag and equipment with you at all times.
