The Mountain Equipment Firefox Jacket for Winter 2011 is an exciting addition to the growing range of Gore-Tex lightweight waterproof jackets. The Firefox Jacket is constructed from Gore-Tex Active Shell which is new and special due to it's ability to deliver lighter, more comfortable waterproof and breathable protection. This gives you next to skin comfort so if you're off in the hills during a stormy evening wearing a t shirt you can pull the Firefox jacket on and still feel as comfortable as you were before.

Nice, Close fitting, breathable waterproof jacket.
This is a very nice jacket. I did have my reservations as it is an incredibly light piece of kit and I was concerned about the material being eaten by the rock faces I spend a fair amount of time playing on, but it's stood up to everything I've thrown at it so far, and it fits close enough that I don't have to worry about loose flapping material.
There are pit zips on the model I bought, and the two pockets are plenty big enough for most things I'd want close to hand.
The hood is awesome, although me being of tiny head, it does run out of adjustment.
I went with a medium - I'm 5'8" with 42" chest, 32" waist - and it fits lovely.
Great, great piece of kit.
Buy one.

I was looking around for a lightweight, simple waterproof (that wasn't paclite! I want to stay dry thank you!) and I've found in the past that ME have produced good quality gear, so I opted for the Firefox. I'm a guy that's slightly smaller than the average (5'7 and quite slim) so I'm forever finding that jackets, even in the smaller sizes, often have tons of excess material flapping around, which can get very annoying. The Firefox has quite a slim fit, and although I've only had it a couple of weeks it seems to fit me just right. It's probably not ideal for bigger guys, but if you're small of frame like I am, it should be just right.It's incredibly lightweight (thanks to ME taking off every 'unnecessary' feature). It still has the trademark stealth hood, which I think is one of the best things about ME jackets, I love it. Two things I would've added to it are pit zips and a front main zip storm flap - but hey, you can't have everything. The one pocket it has is big enough for an OS map or kendal mintcake or whatever.
The rating I've given it is based on a couple of weeks' use, only time will tell if the weight hasn't sacrificed performance! So far, so good!
