The Mountain Equipment Glacier 500 sleeping bag is the evolution of decades in the business, and it shows. Designed as an all round 3 season bag the Glacier 500 uses a 90/10 ratio of 675+ fill power down to handle the cold as the needle hovers around zero. The outer shell on the Glacier series is Mountain Equipment's new water resistant Drilite Loft, designed specifically for protecting down whilst keeping weight to a minimum.

The all important foot and head areas are well covered, with a 5 baffle Bulls-Eye foot that uses a ring of down around three stacked layers and a Sharks Toe design to help feet lie at a natural angle without compressing the insulation. The hood has been carefully shaped, with a HALO baffle and 3D neck collar. At just over a kilo, and packing down to a touch over 8 litres the Glacier 500 has all the features to handle Spring to Late Autumn use at a competitive price.

675 Fill Power

This down provides a perfect solution for people looking for a warm and compressible down product without it costing the earth. 675 fill power down is also a bit less delicate than higher fill power down making it ideal for prolonged use.

Drilite

is an exceptionally light, highly breathable and water resistant shell fabric which protects down clothing and sleeping bags from dampness. Drilite is used on most Mountain Equipment down items due to it's unique ability to protect down from the weather at such a low weight.

Sharks Toe Foot

- otherwise known as an angled foot box, Mountain Equipment use this in many of their down sleeping bags ranges and what it does is allow your feet to rest in a natural position without causing the sleeping bag to become taught. If the bag becomes taught then the down will not be allowed to loft properly and this will result in a loss of heat and insulation around your feet causing discomfort as nobody likes to have cold toes.

Rip Stop -

This is a lightweight nylon fabric with interwoven ripstop reinforcement threads in a crosshatch pattern. It is woven with a coarse, strong warp and filling yarns at intervals so that tears will not spread. Ripstop is used in construction of hot air balloons and yacht sails but in this case very effectively on outdoor clothing.

Stitched Through Construction

- Down garments and equipment constructed using a stitch through construction which helps keep down in place and reduce clumping. This construction is used mostly on mid to low weight down items.
