The Men’s Mountain Equipment Shroud Jacket is a stylish, technical and hooded 100-weight fleece jacket. Redesigned for 2012 the Shroud Jacket is a superbly designed technical fleece jacket that's especially suited towards climbing, mountaineering and many other technical mountain pursuits.Mountain Equipment have used a combination of Polartec fabrics including Polartec 100 Micro fleece to maximise the warmth and comfort, and Polartec Powerstrech to aid structure and fit of the Shroud Jacket. Having a hood on a Microfleece that fits under or over a helmet really adds to the Shroud Jacket's versatility.

Thumb LoopsAre becoming a great feature of jackets, fleece and baselayer because it allows you to connect with the garment as well as wear it. Thumb loops prevent the sleeves from riding up so preventing any discomfort and they also help keep the heat in. |

Im normally a size small in ME equipment, but in the shroud I had to go up a size because it has so tight a fit under armpits.Good sizing service by mail from Webtogs. Thumbs up!

Excellent lightweight technical mid-layer

I chose this jacket for its versatility. It is a brilliant technical fit with power-stretch under the arms, on the sleeves and in the hood. This means that the jacket doesn't ride up when you reach up and thumb loops stop the sleeves riding up too.The polartec 100/powerstretch combination isn't overly warm, which is a good thing as it is means it can be used as an extra lightweight layer for when you stop any activity and need to keep warm or it is a good mid-layer for moderately aerobic activities.
The hood is a snug fit for wearing under a helmet or inside another hood and doesn't obscure vision. There are drawstrings on the hem, two big cave pockets on the outside and a small zipped inner pocket for keeping valuables etc. in, making it useful if you want to just wear it to the pub.
Great value for a great product.

Well lets just say I have just come back from a weeks hiking in the Scottish Highlands. They are taking a battering at the mo with wet and wind. This top performed really well. I wore a thin base layer underneath and I can say it kept me warm and comfortable. All I would say is I would have liked it to have kept me a little warmer when stood still after hiking, but then you would need a thicker heavier jacket for that which is what I didn't want. The hood is a great addition but I would still recommend a thin beanie underneath when cold. Very comfortable fit even when scrambling around rock faces!REVIEW BY: Frosty
