Nemo Morpho 1P Lightweight Tent Information

Product Description

Morpho 1P is the new solo version of Nemos flagship Morpho 2P tent. Thanks to smaller diameter airbeams, Morpho 1P inflates faster and packs considerably smaller than its bigger brother, but retains the same comfort. Solo campers who covet their elbow room can rejoice in Morpho 1P’s huge interior space. Non-breathable walls with an upper waterproof/breathable panel help reduce the weight, while smart crossbow-style vents provide good ventilation and funnel condensation out of the tent. An expansive rear vent also provides versatile ventilation options. Includes a Nemoid Foot Pump, watertight stuff sack, stakes, and repair kit.

Features

  • The reliable Morpho can handle it all: vicious downpours, high winds and early-season snow
  • AirSupported Technology offers unrivaled field repairability, quick setup and zero hassle
  • AirSupported beams are twice as strong as standard aluminum poles and bounce back instead of snapping under weight or extreme wind.
  • Airbeams are constructed with a heavy-duty laminate fabric that is tough, and in the unlikely event of a puncture they’re easily repaired in the field
  • Single-wall shell is made from Silnylon OSMO™ waterproof, breathable fabric which fights condensation with its high rate of breathability
  • Exofly front canopy creates a roomy interior with mesh for summer breezes and a vestibule for stormy weather
  • Durable floor is made from tough polyurethane-coated nylon
  • Scalloped tail keeps the tent body taut and numerous vents facilitate climate control
  • Morpho sets up in about 45 seconds with the Nemoid™ foot pump; packs up in even less time with no poles and no rainfly to mess with.
  • Reflective guyouts, interior mesh pockets and an integrated Light Pocket round out the details
  • Includes dry-bag stuff sack, stakes/guylines, Nemoid foot pump, repair kit and setup instructions
  • Average minimum weight includes tent shell and airbeams with deflations caps.

OSMO WATERPROOF BREATHABLE

Revised for 2010, NEMO’s improved waterproof/breathable fabric, OSMO, continues to set the standard for breathability in single wall tents. The new OSMO is a 40D ripstop polyester with a hydrophobic microporous PU coating that is highly breathable across a broad range of humidities. The polyester is naturally UV-resistant and doesn’t sag when wet. OSMO is highly durable, chemical-resistant, lightweight, and abrasion-resistant.

AIR SUPPORTED TECHNOLOGY

Pressurized air is an integral part of structures from car tires to basketballs, from spacesuits to the massive Millennium Arches building in Stockholm. AirSupported Technology is NEMO's unique interpretation of inflatable structures for lightweight backcountry shelters. The advantages of AST, compared to traditional tent poles, include faster and easier setup, greater strength and wind resistance, easy and reliable repair in the field, smaller pack size, and the ability to bend without breaking.

Ideal cycle-touring tent!

I bought this tent a couple of weeks ago after doing some thorough online investigations.

I was on the hunt for a super-small-packing two-man tent to fit into the cheap sling-over one-piece pannier I had bought from Argos earlier this year.

The NEMO 1P clearly has 1P(P for person) right there in the title. However, I had read a description on the Nemo manufacturers blog which confirmed that it would do as a two-man, which indeed seemed to be the case when it arrived, as it had a similar width (and probably more length) than the last compact-2P I'd camped in.

So, although I was originally eyeing the 2P, I was happy to save even more space by getting the 1P (with the knowledge it could serve as a double).

As mentioned, my other goal was small pack-size and this tent definitely delivers on that front.

I can squish the NEMO to my hearts content in the stuff-sack. In the end it compacts to a slightly larger size than my (very compact) sleeping bag.

I can fit both the tent AND the sleeping bag in the top part of my pannier(!!!), still leaving me the sides for a sleeping pad, towel, clothing, etc.

Having just come back from a 2-night group cycle journey through Scotland, I can say that other campers in my group were as impressed as I with the pack-size of the NEMO 1P!!

Although my overall review is very favorable, I have a couple of minor beefs to round things out ;)

One thing is very odd, and I'm not sure why Nemo has done this: there is a clear window at the front of the tent which cannot be covered. I can see people outside, they can see me. It's a small window but without a doubt I think this would benefit from a little flap cover or...could simply be eliminated?

I like privacy while I'm sleeping, changing, etc. As I was in a public campground this weekend I felt like I had to duck and dive within the tent in-case someone strolled by and had a 'peep' through the window or was eyeballing me whilst I slept.

CreeeEEEpy!

Regarding the setup, I've only pitched it a total of 3 times so far . The first pitch had me shaking my fist at the heavens and cursing the air.

My air-beams were off-kilter and leaning in one direction with a crimp occurring on one side. After I adjusted the outer pegging line-up this improved substantially but there was still a kink in the beams on one side as it leaned slightly in that direction.

I'm a designer by profession so may be a little symmetry-sensitive....

Anyway, i pegged and re-pegged and finally realized that the best approach was to peg the front, peg the back and then, peg the sides LOOSELY! By this I mean, don't yank out a side as taught as you can when pegging. The front and back pegs if aligned properly will dictate exactly where the side pegs should pop in.

By third pitch it was a much quicker and straighter setup although I really wish I could see a live-demo from the NEMO people on the ultimate pegging strategy, especially when you're one person in a field, doing this yourself.

I've not been up against any wind with my NEMO Morpho 1P yet either so I can't report on that front although I imagine I would like to have my guylines in place during a proper windstorm.

All in all, after my inaugural faffing and battles, I did find this tent quick and easy to pitch and while other campers went off to pitch their tents early in the evening, I quite easily rocked up in the darkish night after my socializing and had it set up in about 4 minutes.

I got the impression that the NEMO is a quality build!. I'm particularly impressed by the simple click-in of the pump and subsequent click-in of the deflation valve which brings the beams down in a second. The tent takes literally a minute or two to pack.

It feels good to support a newish brand coming out with innovative solutions for the compact camper. I'm sure these tents will get better and better! For me , this tent was not inexpensive but it was an investment in quality which I hope will serve me for many years.

Final statement:
An exciting product that I would happily recommend to anyone for whom lightness and long-term durability is a priority.

GO NEMO!

the one tent to rule them all

once you get accustomed to the set up, it (if you ignore those silly pop up types) becomes the most easy tent to pitch . not the lightest of tents but who cares about lightweight when you quickly need shelter after a long day. you can set it up whilst you stay inside the tent which is useful for when its chucking it down with rain, not easy at first but soon you will get the knack of it. i have not tested it in colder conditions yet but i expect it to be very capable of coping with a little snow fall on the downs. could be used as 2P tent at a squeeze.
