Alpine Series
The RAB Alpine series of down sleeping bags are ideal for lightweight mountaineering. This bag uses technology to create a specialist sleeping bag by minimising weight, maximising comfort and not sacrificing durability.

The Rab Alpine 400 sleeping bag uses Pertex Quantum fabric which is very lightweight, stong and durable. It is used with the Rab sleeping bags as it is downproof, as soft as silk, and reduces the packing size by upto 50%. As Pertex Quantum is so light it enables the down in your sleeping bag to loft more easily which means you get warmer faster.

An angled foot box in the Alpine 400 allows for extra foot space so not restricting movement and enabling you to keep your toes warm through movement in cold conditions.

A combination of the finest down and incredible technologies come together to create a sleeping bag which is second to none for warmth, comfort, and functionality.

Trail Magazine, April 2010.......The new range of Rab Alpine bags take everything the brand has learnt since the eighties with the addition of modern materials. Firstly there is the down quality, which is 800 fill power goose down. This is combined with Pertex Quantum, the lightest of the range at 32g/m2, plus Pertex endurance on the outer for better water resistance as this material has a hydrostatic head of 1 metre, making it almost waterproof except for the seams, which are not waterproof. The bag uses the trapezoidal construction method, where each baffle is shaped like a box with sides that taper together a little towards the top. This reduces cold spots without adding too much weight. Also the foot is angled so the toes don’t squash the down in this area. There is an anti-snag webbing tape down the full-length zip. A shoulder baffle completes a great design. On The Hill....This bag packs down to a reasonable size and weight for backpacking, but it is not the smallest or lightest here. Tugging it from the stuffsack there is a robustness about the feel of the bag. It feels like it has more insulation and loft than some other bags. But what I liked straight away was that the zip that didn’t snag as easily as some others tend to. The zip baffle is also wider than some other bags, which adds weight and cost, but reduces cold spots of course. The bag is very comfortable thanks to that tapered foot in part, but also the body and hood fit well. The drawcords worked well and this bag felt right straight away. Over recent years I have been less than impressed with Rab bags, but at last we see the brand returning to the quality it was known for in the eighties. A great product.

Tech details

Weight: 950g / 34oz

800 Fill Power  The top end of the market, offering exceptional warmth to weight ratios. 800 fill power is rare and expensive but gives expedition level performance or options for ultralight construction. The high loft down compresses well, keeping pack size down whilst standing up to the most extreme conditions
Pertex Endurance technology incorporates an ultra-thin membrane with a durable nylon face fabric. This layer is so thin that it hardly adds any weight, nor does it affect the softness of the material considerably.
Pertex Quantum technology is the lightest of the Pertex fabrics and it shows the best strength to weight ratio. Pertex Quantum is down proof and withstands the abuse of hardcore use.
PrimaLoft is technology’s answer to down, with the important addition of being usable in the rain. The advanced synthetic insulation absorbs less water, so stays warm even when wet making it ideal for cold wet climates where down products may be unsuitable.
YKK Zippers are used for their robust and water resistant properties. YKK uses the combination of locking teeth together and a PU coated strip to create a barrier between you and the elements.
Angled Foot Box - Sleeping bags with an angled foot box have been made to fit your feet so that you can lie in a natural position making it more comfortable and also to reduce compression of the down and reduce heat loss.

Excellent lightweight bag

Very light for the overall warmth, well made and looks pretty durable.

Might not be so good if you're over 6ft though, also some zip toggles would be nice as its awkward with cold hands.

Credit to webtogs as they've actually been bothered to pass this onto Rab, not many retailers would.
