Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boots Information

Product Description

Aimed squarely at the mixed ground climber the boots take a B2 rated crampon, working particularly well with the Grivel Air Tech for mixed routes up to Grade 5. The midsole provides good support whilst the ¾ shank gives just enough flex to keep the approach comfortable. The Charmoz uses the recently introduced FT last, giving a good, precise, feel both when scrambling and climbing and the Vibram Mulaz sole with its plastic inserts for better traction on snow. Where the Charmoz really excels is on true mixed ground, with constant switches between snow, rock and ice proving no problem. With a waterproof, breathable, Gore-Tex membrane , rigid soles and flexible uppers the Scrapa Charmoz GTX gives the excellent support combined with comfort you really need when the mountain terrain changes every few hundred feet

Tech details

Weight: 1480g / 52oz

Gore-Tex XCR Technology is the Gore-Tex eXtended Comfort Range, used where comfort and dexterity matter most, and designed to meet the challenge of keeping hands and feet dry whilst letting them breathe freely.
FT Last

A precise, very technical, last that’s slightly asymmetric gives a good compromise between comfort and precision. EVA and PU inserts in the Viram Mulaz sole give improved durability for use on mixed and rocky ground whilst the rand is on the generous side for added protection. An ideal boot for Scottish Winters, Summer Alpine North Face routes and mixed ground to Scottish Grade 5.

Nice, lightweight boot

I was considering the Manta instead of the Charmoz, but on advice have gone with the Charmoz. Certainly feels like the right decision so far - just waiting for a chance to give them some real punishment in the Highlands!

Light Flight

These boots feel really lightweight for a B2 mountain boot; good ankle support and enough flex to make them comfortable to walk in.

new boots

I found the Chamoz boots to be very light and excellent on snow, my only concern is they nipped my lefthand little toe after a 3 hour walk wearing two pairs of socks, a problem I've not had with other boots. Hopefully taping up my toe will cue this niggle. It remains to be seen how the boots perform on longer walks.

Super Charmoz but !

Tried these boots out as soon as they arrived. I went on a four hour hike and was pleased to note that they were very light and comfotable. Tried them on two big days in Scotland on snow and ice. I was wearing crampons most of the time and was happy with the rigidity of the boot and the comfort factor when walking in. However I was dissapointed to note that there was wear on the toe and heel area of the sole. As I intend to use them on the Alps later in the year I am concerned that they will not withstand the conditions there.

WHSIWYG - Outstanding design

Outstanding performance as ever with Scarpa - Having climbed the "Grand Charmoz" I would really have welcomed the lightness, controlled flex and precision of these B2 boots on the ridge itself. If you have climbed it then you know I'm right - if not, it's there waiting for you to check it out. Can't wait to use them out there this summer

Great Boot

Pricey but worth every penny.
Awesome boot - true 4 season boot. Comfy enough for walking the dog at home. Simply glides over rocky paths and the glyders. Feet always at right temp, whether summer or winter (you need the right fit for this - nothing to do with temp rating on the boot!). Then in the snow - add a C2 crampon - Brilliant. Copes with summer alps too. All in all best boot ever. Fit is low'ish volume all round. I went up from a high volume 42 to this boot in a 43. Get a custom footbed and job done for at least 5 years. Well done scarpa. Paid about £190 so it hurt but could have been worse.

Heavy Mountain Boots are a think of the past

1 of 1 people found this review useful
I have used the Scarpa Charmoz boots a lot in the past couple of years. If fact that is the only problem with the Charmoz as it seems that I tend to put them on for almost everything which is quickly wearing out my lovely alpine boots.

Coming from a traditional heavy leather boot to the Charmoz was a revelation. They are so light and really comfortable.

I enjoy long classic mountaineering routes done in a traditional style. Rock shoes on a Diff or a alpine D whats that all about! If Gaston Rebuffat could do it so and I. The Charmoz boots excel at this providing stability, confidence and support in a huge range of climbing situations from long welsh classics to jamming Chamonix cracks right up to steep snow and ice.
