Good, but could do better!

Why do Scarpa continue to do Goretex and non-Goretex versions of the same shoe? Meindl have the Burma and Borneo- almost identical boots, one Goretex, one not. Simple! Anyway, I've decided to persevere with these. Scarpa insoles are awful though- no support, no cushioning, thin and hard. These boots have rrps of £170 to £180 and this is just inexcusible. I have just done a fast, flat 10 miler today and my feet are in a right state. Anyway I'm sure with some new insoles these boots will be great hence bothering to write this review. The construction of these boots is of the highest quality, especially the leather uppers and linings. The midsole and outsole is excellent. Medium flexibility and excellent grip. I have not worn in any wet conditions yet so am unable to comment on water resistance. Anyway I hope to wear these boots for the forseeable future and I'm sure that they will provide me miles of trouble free walking due to the quality of the construction and materials used.

Great Boots but obsolete already..Why?

These boots replaced a pair of Meindls which always gave me blisters. However these fitted me perfectly straight from the box and I have completed serious miles in Snowdonia and the Lake District in all sorts of weather. My only gripe is that Scarpa has discontinued this model, keeping the gore-tex version only. I try to get non-gortex leather boots as they are naturally waterproof/resistant if they are looked after and I can use Seal-skinz if needed. As my current pair is only 3 months old I cant justify buying another pair to keep for when mine finally need replacing.

Fantastic boot

Wore these on a week's trekking the Lycian Way in Turkey, including over 2000m ascent of Mt. Tahtali. Very supportive and coped pretty well with the heat due to not being Gore-Tex. Best below the snow-line boots out there in my opinion. Just remember that Euro size 43 with Scarpa corresponds to 8 and 3/4 UK so best to go for 44 if you are size 9.
