Three in one jackets are designed to offer the widest possible range of uses, combining insulation and a waterproof outer shell. Use the inner alone to keep warm, the outer alone to keep dry or zip them together to stay both warm and dry. With the Evolution Triclimate The North Face have taken a fully seam sealed HyVent shell and added a zip in Tricilmate fleece inner. The fleece inner zips directly into the outer shell to make a single, all weather, garment or can be used on its own when the weather permits.
The North Face have taken care of the fine details with a fully adjustable hood and a brushed chin guard lining to prevent chaffing. The large Napoleon pocket on the outer will take a map, whilst the inner sports an easily accessible chest pocket.

HyVent is a waterproof, breathable technology that utilises a three-layer construction to stay simultaneously breathable and waterproof in extreme conditions. The durable woven outer layer protects the wearer from abrasion. The mid-layer utilises a PU coating and micro pores to channel water vapour from the inner layer to the outer, while keeping water out. The comfortable inner layer also channels moisture up to the micro pores. |

The right purchase at the right time

I've needed a new winter coat for a while and was fortunate enough to be able to afford something decent this time around. I've always admired The North Face clothing, and this coat has not disappointed.THE GOOD POINTS:
* Comfortable - good fit, not too bulky or constricting and not too heavy. I'm over 6'2" and 15st so getting things that fit is always a challenge, but the XL is a good fit for me. It's possible to drive when wearing it.
* Good attachment system - this is a 3-in-1 coat so the fleece inner is removable. I've had problems with such coats in the past but The North face has come up with a good attachement system and I've had no problems this time; the fleece does not bunch up or get caught.
* It's very warm - I've been out in -2c with just a t-shirt and light cotton jumper underneath with no problems.
* It's good in the wind and rain - the wind is kept at bay and I have stayed bone dry in the rain.
* The underarm vents are surprisingly useful; it's nice to have access to some cooling air when working up a bit of a sweat !
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT:
* Not enough pockets - there are only three outer pockets and no inner ones (although the pockets are deep and robustly lined).
* The zips could do with slightly longer / more substantial tapes to make them easier to find and grip with gloves on.

More great service and good TNF Jacket
The TNF Jacket I purchased is fig green the same as my McMurdo but the colours are slightly different this one is definitely more of an olive colour than the brighter green of my McMurdo.
The jacket itself is very well made with the usual TNF eye for detail but am surprised that even though I purchased the same size as my McMurdo it is a tad smaller in both the chest size and the arm and body length.
The fleece is nice quality with lined sleeves the only slight disappointment is the pockets of the fleece are sewn squares on the inside of the fleece and not enclosed in the material itself making them hidden on the inside.
The fleece is easy to remove and reattach to the shell with 3 poppers to undo/redo one in each sleeve and one below the collar.
Ideal coat if you need something light and warm.

Was looking at replacing an ageing winter jacket a year or two ago and settled on one of these. Fits great, has been manufactured to a good standard. Very versitile in the fact that it is a 3-in-1, TNF's Hyvent fabric is surprisingly good for the money. Have worn it on the hill a few times and given it a pounding and the jacket still looks like new. Only gripe I have with it is that it can sometimes be too hot (altho that's probably more my fault as I tend to run hot) but the great 'pit zips' go a long way to over coming this problem. Pockets are generous but TNF could have added a few more. So, would I reccomend this jacket? Yes Yes Yes!REVIEW BY: Welshdragon60

My new favourite coat!!
I spent weeks looking at 3-in-1 jackets, found this and decided to buy one, after looking at a few reviews. I'm so glad I did, it's absolutely superb. It fits perfectly, it's very lightweight and comfortable. For once I'm actually looking forward to winter!!

Happy Hubby
A lovely jacket, lightweight but really warm, excellent protection from the wind, rain and more recent ice, snow and sub zero temperatures on the Isle of Man.
The quality is supberb as is the detail. The hood folds neatly into the collar, a design 'must' for my hubby who is delighted with his Christmas present.

I received my North Face jacket within two or three days of the snow storms that blanketed Scotland in late 2009, and I must say, it was just in time. This jacket stood up to the hail, snow, rain, and wind like a champ. I stayed dry and warm throughout. The fleece is very warm and well fitted to the jacket. The jacket material seems like it will hold up nicely to my everyday use (walking two miles each way to work everyday in Scotland). This jacket is the best purchase I made in 2009.REVIEW BY: bkcraft

Brilliant xmas present!
Fantastic jacket which does everything it says on the tin!!! My boyfriend loves it!! He is normally a large, so use the size guide as this highlighted he was a medium!!

Awesome versatility!
Bought just in time for a trip to chilly Europe and this jacket is quite simply the best £150 I've spent on outdoor clothing - maintains a perfect body temperature during both strenuous exercise and sat around outdoors! Haven't tried it as separate items as it's simply been too chilly but no reason to doubt it won't please in other respects.
