A favorite among The North Face athletes the world over, the Redpoint Optimus Jacket is a supreme layering and highly durable insulating alpine garment that's built to cope with a wide range of cold-weather activities. Designed and constructed using PrimaLoft One insulation, this popular choice of synthetic material retains its warmth even when wet.
Soft to touch and wear, the Redpoint Optimus Jacket is a super tough winter layer that's abrasion resistant and packed with performance features: peripheral vision is important on the mountain and the attached insulated hood allows for plenty of adjustment. Seamless yoke and shoulders provide plenty of snag free movement of the arms and shoulders at the rock face. Should you get the opportunity to rest, the two hand warmer pockets bring some respite for cold fingers, and a deep internal pocket also acts as the stuff sack

PrimaLoft is technology’s answer to down, with the important addition of being usable in the rain. The advanced synthetic insulation absorbs less water, so stays warm even when wet making it ideal for cold wet climates where down products may be unsuitable.
SUMMIT SERIES Developed for the most serious athletes, the North Face Summit Series features their athlete-tested and technically-advanced apparel and equipment. This premier collection is designed for expedition use from base camp to summit, where the extremes of weather, terrain and temperature demand the highest level of performance.
The North Face Men's Redpoint Optimus Jacket Customer Reviews
Don't let the apparent thinness of the Redpoint Optimus fool you. Purchased primarily for use under my TNF Mountain Guide shell to layer against harsh Scottish winters, the RO is equally efficient thrown on for a scoot to the bar or as a top layer on belay hanging from a frozen alpine gendarme. In short, get one. Oh, &, I take a large in most things, [42" chest] & a medium RO was perfect.
Add the yawnably faultless & outstanding customer service from Webtogs & the package, as is consistently normal, complete :o)

The jacket is good light and warm, but the zip is fiddly - it always takes me about 5 goes to get the zip engaged to allow me to pull the zip up.

I have just bought 3 of these jackets for myself and my 2 brothers. They are very warm for their weight and are extremely comfortable. Build quality appears to be excellent. For watching the kids play football, to mountain biking in the lakes, look no further.

Excellent Jacket to keep warm
I use this jacket as a layer with a good North Face Gore Tex jacket on the outside. The combination is cosy and dry in all conditions, even the coldest with the primaloft insulation. On its own its good too but not designed for wet conditions on its own.

For the price this is an excellent jacket with a very good balance between weight (very light weight) and warmth. It's not going to compete with the super dense full-on down layers you can buy, but I don't like massively thick layers, and it's lightness/packability are for me part of it's appeal. The only reason why I didn't give it a full five stars for every catagory are firstly I haven't had it long enough to fully test all areas and secondly related to this the zip is a little tricky in that you have to be pretty precise in getting the ends in in order for the zip to work. I can see that this might over time put stress/strain on this area and if I had to bet on wich bit of the jacket might go first I'd say this lower area of the zip. Still, it is North Face Summit Series, so in theory if you're the original owner you should be covered (in which case go for it). I find the sizing and fit of all North Face gear perfect for me; I take a size Medium am 5ft 9/10in and 32wasit (11st). Finally the colour I went for (grey with contrasting green zip) I think looks very cool in an understated kind of way (and sadly goes very nicely with my TNF Point Five jacket).

redpoint optimus jacket
i have the redpoint jacket without the hood, but wanted a jacket with hood to keep my head warm! the medium was to snug and i sent it back and ordered a large, sleeves are a bit long for me but overall a really warm, low weight jacket and now my head and neck are very snug. Just in time for this icy cold conditions - wonderful jacket.

Lovely warm Redpoint
Nice warm jacket for spotting boulderers or standing around watching fireworks. Not bad in light showers too.
