The North Face Soft Shell Jackets

North Face are one of the most recognisable and pioneering brands out there on the hills today, and their developments in softshell reflect their status in the Outdoors world. They have a broad range of fabrics, and design styles, so whatever activity you are doing, you are going to find a softshell that fits the bill.

Fabrics

North Face use a wide range of softshell fabrics, from Polartec Windbloc, Goretex windstopper along with their own brand Apex soft shell fabrics. Their Apex range of fabrics are their most widely used and are exclusive to the North Face. The fabric itself is a tight weave made from Nylon, with a Durable Water Repellent coat added to all versions. They also incorporate stretch within all versions to increase comfort and range of movement.

The first North Face Shell Fabric we will take a look at is Apex Aerobic. It is the most breathable and light of all the Apex fabrics and is therefore ideal for high aerobic activities such as cycling, running etc for for Spring, Autumn and Winter in terms of seasons. It has a wind resistance of 10 CFM. Next up is Apex Universal, it is a lot more stretchy than Apex Aerobic and is probably the most practical of them all with a wide range of uses. Ideally suited for Winter, it spreads its wings from the Aerobic activities of Running and Cycling through to Hiking and climbing. North Face Apex Climateblock is the most solid of all their fabrics. Virtually waterproof as well as windproof it is the best fabric for winter activities such as Skiing, Snowboarding and Trekking in the depths of winter.
