Carbon Neutral Delivery

We take every chance we get to go outdoors, either camping, walking, skiing, cycling or diving (depending on which one of us you talk to!). We strongly believe that planet earth is a precious resource, to be passed on to our children's children.

With this in mind, we've come up with the idea of offsetting the carbon impact made by the delivery vans and trucks that deliver your gear to you.

How does it work?

Every time you place an order on webtogs.co.uk, you have the option of adding 25p to the cost of your order. If you do, we do the same, adding another 25p ourselves. At the end of each month, we add up all the 50p contributions and send them off to our partners, Carbon Footprint.

What do Carbon Footprint do with the money?

Carbon Footprint run 2 types of scheme, the first is the purchase of traded carbon credits on a listed and regulated exchange. We, personally, don't support the idea of exchange traded credits, as we feel it gives larger companies an excuse to carry on polluting our atmosphere. For more information on our particular view here, please send us an email at carbon@webtogs.co.uk, and we can ramble on in more detail!

The second scheme is a fully traceable and independently verified scheme to plant trees in various areas around the world. Tree planting makes a direct difference to the levels of CO2 in our atmosphere, and gets our support as one of several ways to combat pollution.

You can find out more about the program, by visiting the Carbon Footprint site

Planting Trees in Kenya

After reviewing the various offset programs Carbon Footprint offer, we all liked the tree planting in Kenya scheme. You can find out all about this, on the Carbon Footprint website, by clicking here.

Do you make any money from this?

In a word, NO. It actually costs us money, as we contribute the other half of the 50p cost.

Why 50p?

We consulted with our partners, Carbon Footprint, and worked out the average carbon emissions of a delivery van, over an average distance within the UK. The 50p tariff, actually offsets about half the van, in most cases, so it's a reasonably comprehensive attempt to make a small difference. If other e-tailers do the same, that little difference will get larger and larger, but you get the picture!
